The Visit
Well, we got home on Saturday afternoon. I have just been lazy about updating my blog, as usual. We got to my mom's around 11 a.m. on Friday. She was suppose to cook us fried potatoes and eggs for lunch but I guess she forgot. I asked about it and she said that she would just cook them for us on Saturday. I told her that we had plans to go to my dad's on Saturday and she told me that I could just have him cook them for me. A little awkward there for an instant. I just laughed it off and didn't feed the fire. I just said, noooooo, I want you to cook them for me. See when I go to my mom's she cooks whatever I want to eat as a treat. Fried potatoes and eggs are scarce around the homefront here. I know it is a strange request but when you don't get it it makes it special. For dinner on Friday my mom cooked pork tenderloin roasts with mashed potatoes, carrots, gravy, cornbread, and fried cabbage. Yum, yum!! The cabbage was at my request. She made her awesome coconut cake for me for desert. It is a butter recipe cake cooked and holes punched in it, a mixture of coconut cream and eagle's brand sweetened condensed milk poured over it, then topped with an icing of cool whip with coconut and chopped pecans in it. It is delicious. We played Phase 10 dice after dinner and talked until bedtime. Had a rough nights sleep on one of her couches. I woke the next morning to her cooking fried potatoes. She made the fried potatoes and eggs for me for breakfast and I was in heaven. We visited a while and then we took our leave to go to my dad's. I hated saying goodbye.

We found my dad's house. Well, he is staying in his travel trailer to cut down costs of heating the big house just for him, so we all crammed into the trailer. It was nice to see him. He has gained some weight but looks the same. There were a few awkward moments in the flow of the conversation. It was like no one could think of anything to say. We haven't been around each other for years and don't know a lot about the other now. Nothing in common except some health issues. His place did make me feel sleepy, so, I guess I was comfortable enough. We visited with him about 2 hours and then took our leave. I was so glad to be on my way home. I don't like leaving my comfort zone at all. It felt so good to walk through this door.

Later. God bless. Teressa.

Just hearing you describe your mothers home cooking made me gain 10 more lbs, hehehe. I LOVR fried cabbage. Gene used to make it all the time. I like it nice and brown, yummy! And eggs and potatoes..another thing I havn't had in a while. The forst time I ever had eggs and potatoes a Canadian girl made them for me and they were to die for. Your Mom prob makes them with boiled and diced potatoes but because I am lazy I make them with canned potatoes and splash the eggs over and fry...a little bacon grease if you have any makes everything better. boy o boy no wonder I am so heavy. I also like home fries (egg and potatoes without the eggs, lol) I'm glad you had a pleasent vacation and I am with you. I like my own bed and my own bathroom. It ain't no palace by any means but it's home...right?

The food sounded wonderful! I miss my mom's cooking too, mine just never seems quite as good. I know what you mean about your dad and the awkwardness of it. It's like when I see mine at weddings or funerals. Other than saying hello, I have nothing to say. He's a stranger to me.

It is hard getting out of the comfort zone!! I don't even like to go to the store a mile away.
Glad you got to visit with your parents and the cooking sounds great!
    Take care!

It's really hard to be comfy. Once you get into your comfortable zone, you just don't seem to move an inch making you as if glued to the place. Anyway it seems you're the only child that you are showered with all the love and affection by your parents.
    Anyway, here from Wendy's.

well heyyy you made it there. always nice to get back home to your own place tho.

cabbage makes you fart. never really been a fan of cooked cabbage. my mum used to give it to me as a kid needless to say it got hidden in the same place as the rest of the veges i disliked. behind the stove...behind the fridge...lumped in a mouth cheek just after i called out that i needed to go to the loo.
