| My dad |
Tuesday my dad started having chest pains and the pain went up his throat. He told me when I talked to him Thursday night that it was some bad pain. He knew something was wrong. Wednesday he went to the doctor and they set it up for my dad to go to a town 2 and a half hours away for an angiogram on Monday. Well Thursday my dad was feeling worse and he went and talked to the doctor again. The doctor wanted him to go to Cape, the city 2 and a half hours away, that day. My dad said he couldn't but the doctor called to schedule it anyway. They couldn't get him in on Thursday and set it up for today. He had the test and they found blockage and a blood clot. They put in 2 stints for the blockage and blew the clot out. Anyway that is how my dad told me they did it. It is scary to imagine them blowing a clot on through. Daddy said that it hurt really bad when they did that. The stints didn't hurt, just when they moved the clot. The doctor told him that he wouldn't have made it until Monday, that he would of had the "Big One" before then. When I talked to him this evening he was jovial and counting the minutes until he could move his leg and go have a cigarette, lol. The apple don't fall too far from the tree now does it? Now you all know where I got it from. My dad's cholesterol runs 300 to 400 something. He eats eggs and bacon or eggs and sausage every day. He won't eat oats, which I know for a fact lowers the cholesterol, it dropped my mom's 28 pts. I think it was, may have been 23, but right around there. I did hear on the news tonight that they have now found that beer will lower the cholesterol but I don't want him to know that. I want him to give up the breakfast fats and eat oatmeal, plus take whatever meds they put him on. I am sure they will put him on Lipitor or something like that, as well as a blood thinner being that he had the clot. I mean they have me taking Plavix to thin the blood because of poor circulation, I didn't even have a clot, I hope they give him something to stop any more from forming. I was so relieved when I finally talked to him tonight. I actually didn't let this make me sick, which is what I usually do. I just prayed and let God do His part. The thought that I haven't seen my dad in many years did cross my mind. I need to go and see him but there just hasn't been a way. I don't drive anymore and Clay is in school on one of the days Gary is off. I am hoping that we will be able to go up next weekend. I haven't said anything to anybody because it is very tentative.
Clay got his report card today. Straight A's again. I am so proud of him. If only he could work on being less disrespectful as hard. He is only disrespectful to his father and me. He does so well in school though and he isn't in trouble otherwise. He is a good kid. Just having teenage quirks. I wish he could go to work this summer. He is going to be so bored here.

Thank God your dad went in when he did. The things they can do now are unbelievable. I hope you're able to get up to visit your parents soon. And please tell your son, congratulations!

Congratulations on Clay making it thru with flying colours. If he keeps it up he will be able to get a scholarship to a good college. Else for the "disrespect" thing, I hate to say but he's around the age where he wants to throw his weight around. Maybe Gary could sit down with him man-to-man and make him see a few things. He shouldn't be disrespecting his father and you but it's easier said than done to make them toe the line. Amanda is a good hard-working girl now and a good mother, but 10 years ago I felt like such a bad mother that I couldn't get her to toe the line. I wasn't able to be consistant either, somedays I would be up to correcting her, and other days don't bother me". As for your Dad, I am so happy he went to the hosp. when he did. I think they do "bust" bloodclots when they find them. At least the stints will keep the blood vessel open. Lipitor is a good pill for cholesterol. Mine was 250 a couple of years ago, when I started taking it. Last September it was 187, and I wasn't even faithful to the low-fat diet. And the blood-thinner will kep the blood running along. I'm just glad he sougght help when he did *whew* ...hugz, Linda

onya to clay for his impressive report card...would he be able to get a summer job, even if it is just a few days a week?
excellent to see more posts from you lady! i can only think that you are feeling somewhat more able and focused so that has to be good aye :)

Thank goodness your dad went when he did. Clots are nothing to mess with.
You can consider yourself a great parent. Clay gets good grades and he does treat eveyone else with respect. He was such a sweetheart when you were in the hospital. Kudos.
Thank you for the comments you left. I do worry about having to give up my house. I have always loved it here and the thoughts of moving does not sit well with me.
My daughter is another story and one of these days I will let go in a blog, but I am not ready to do that yet.

I am glad your dad listened to his pain! Most men do not, they try to tough it out. Also good on Clay, tell him to keep it up. Our youngest daughter is doing well in middle school. She could do so much better but is really lazy. Hmmm I wonder were she got that trait from!
