To Christmas We Go....So we go to my mom''s and Max''s for Christmas. I really enjoyed it. All the family together is not something I have been able to experience in a long time. My husband is actually getting along with them. We leave with plans for visiting again. We went home and things changed. Ace stopped drinking again. We went to my mom and Max''s to visit a few times. One day the subject of a piece of land Max has that there is electricity and a well on. Then that my step-uncle has a trailer he would be willing to sell for payments. We decided this was awesome. I could not believe it was happening but happen it did. We got the land ready and the trailer was moved in. This was a secluded place. About a half mile off the paved road into the woods. There were sacrifices but nothing I had not been through before. I had been through so much that this was nothing. We had no hot water and no phone. There was a lot of time spent alone. No way to get a job because I can''t drive the pickup we have. Ace did make us a shower of sorts. He took a 40 gallon plastic container. I don''t know what it had in it originally, something for the farm, anyway he set it on top of the well house, filled it and put a siphon hose in it. The water would heat during the day and at evening we would have a hot shower. Come winter time it would be cold showers inside but for the moment it worked. We didn''t have any gas so I made a stove out of a garbage can, cleaned good, a couple cinder blocks, a lid of an old BBQ grill, and the oven rack. I cooked some good meals on that stove, but I was glad when we got the gas to cook inside, lol. The gas also enabled us to take a warm bath in the winter time, so thank God no cold showers. I could not believe that Ace had went so long without drinking. We had family dinners at our place and things seemed to be so ordinary. I was in heaven. I found a job and Ace took me back and forth. It was nice to be working again. It didn''t take long after getting the job for Ace to get jealous. I then found out that without alcohol, jealousy would turn him mean. I had to start hiding the knives. I was once again living in fear. The first time Ace came after me at this time I found that he still was in possession of that mean knife. I was under the impression that he had gotten rid of it. I had that thing held pressed to my throat. How I ever talked my way out of that one is beside me, but talk my way out I did. The next time he came after me with an ax. It is scary to have someone chasing you down with an Axe. At a point he stopped and was trying to get me to take it. I didn''t want any part of it and I refused. He was insisting that I take it. I knew if I took it that he would tell the cops that he was defending himself in killing me. I did not take that thing. It is funny how he would all of a sudden just stop. He would be so apologetic. All of it ended up with me having to quit my job. Now I was stuck all the time with him.
Summer came again and with it Ace''s restlessness. I sensed it. As usual one day, see he always had me go cash his check. I would go into town and sign his name and cash it. Well this day it was planned that I would go to town with my mother and cash the check. He would meet us there at a later time and I would give him the money to pay the feed bill and other bills and then I would go with my mother to the neighboring town and get groceries, like I said, as usual. My mother and I went and did our thing and she took me home. When we got half way to the trailer, there is a gate that has to be kept closed so the cattle can''t get out, Ace was sitting there in the pickup. The truck had died and since we had to push start the thing he was stuck because it was not on a hill. My mother gave him a push and we got going. Once at the trailer Ace starts helping to unload the car and that is when I smell the alcohol on him. I start to shake. I am now hurrying before my mother finds out. She will know what is happening if she finds that he is drinking again. Little did she know that it had already started and I expected worse. She finally left and it was a nightmare. I don''t know what started it but he started beating me. He started in the trailer then drug me out to the yard. It seemed he beat me for hours. At one point he picked up a piece of a cinder block and started to crush my head. Once again, I don''t know how I talked him out of it, beats me. I just know I was talking to him trying to assuage the situation. I was tired and broke. He left me there and went inside. I finally made my way into the trailer. He was packing. I asked what he was doing and he said that he had a job offer in Louisiana and that he was going to take it. I mean this was out of the blue. From beating the crap out of me to this. I was like, oh yeah!, in my head. He is going to leave! Well he got to the truck and the truck won''t go into gear. I was getting really disappointed. I crawled under the pickup and seen the problem and fixed it with a bobby pin. Now you can ask me to this day what was wrong that I fixed it with a bobby pin but I could not tell you for the life of me, but it worked. I think it was something to do with the linkage. He was out of there and I knew this time he was not coming back. I had had enough finally. Took me long enough, eh? I was battered. I had bruises all over my face, a busted lip, and one of my breasts was black. My ribs were sore as all get out. I didn''t find out until the next day that he didn'' make it far with that truck, lol. My step-father met him on the side of the road the next morning and took him to the neighboring town. Then came to check on me. He saw the mess I was in. Wanted me to come home with him but I said no, that I knew he was gone and that if he showed up I was not going to take it anymore. I would kill him. I was no longer afraid.
